News\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-05-12\/doordash-poses-disruption-risk-to-payments-firms-analyst-says\">reported<\/a>\u00a0Tuesday (May 12), citing an analysis from investment advisor\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rothschildandco.com\/en\/global-advisory\/global-markets-solutions\/rothschild-co-redburn\/\">Rothschild &amp; Co Redburn\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uk.linkedin.com\/in\/dominic-ball-43aa45164\">Dominic Ball<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhile it may appear early to forecast a product that DoorDash has not formally announced, our conviction comes from extensive channel checks, product evidence, hiring activity and merchant feedback,\u201d Ball wrote in a note. \u201cAs we forecast DoorDash to scale from 0% to 20% of US restaurant locations by 2035, its expansion could pressure Toast\u2019s win rates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PYMNTS has reached out to DoorDash for comment. A company spokesperson acknowledged receipt of the request but has not yet offered a further response.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Bloomberg notes, DoorDash \u2014 already America\u2019s largest food delivery app \u2014 has been eyeing expansions into international markets,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/partnerships\/2025\/doordash-and-serve-partner-on-autonomous-robot-deliveries\/\">delivery robots<\/a> and categories like grocery, electronics, apparel and car parts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The company launched a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/news\/delivery\/2025\/doordash-offers-retailers-fulfillment-services-from-dashmart-locations\/\">smart scale<\/a>\u00a0last year to help restaurants weigh orders before they are handed to drivers to cut down missing-item claims. Also in 2025, the company acquired restaurant reservation tech company\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sevenrooms.com\/\">SevenRooms<\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/acquisitions\/2025\/doordash-plans-acquire-hospitality-tech-firm-sevenrooms\/\">$1.2 billion<\/a>.<\/p><div id=\"pymnt-3114056466\" class=\"pymnt-content pymnt-entity-placement\" style=\"margin-top: 50px;\"><p style=\"text-align:center\">Advertisement: Scroll to Continue<\/p><script async type=\"text\/javascript\" id=\"dianomi_context_script\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dianomi.com\/js\/contextfeed.js\"><\/script> \r\n<div class=\"dianomi_context\" data-dianomi-context-id=\"4329\"><\/div><\/div>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PYMNTS wrote last week about DoorDash\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/news\/delivery\/2026\/doordash-grocery-growth-fuels-37-marketplace-sales-jump\/\">first-quarter earnings call<\/a>, which showed the company\u2019s gross order value reaching $31.6 billion, a 37% increase year over year. DoorDash\u2019s DashPass program and monthly active user numbers both hit record highs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As that report pointed out, the company used its earnings call to focus on the same argument it made in Q4: \u201cThe next leg of competition in local commerce runs through whoever delivers the best end-to-end experience,\u201d the report said. \u201cCEO\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/xutony\">Tony Xu<\/a>\u00a0said customers judge platforms on whether they got the exact item they ordered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, PYMNTS wrote earlier this year about efforts by restaurants to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/news\/delivery\/2026\/why-restaurants-want-their-customers-back-from-delivery-platforms\/\">win their customers back<\/a>\u00a0from platforms like DoorDash.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the delivery world is not likely to return to the pre-platform era, that report said, the rise of artificial intelligence (AI)-driven commerce and retail solutions could usher in an era where restaurants are more than just passive participants.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIn an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/restaurant-technology\/2026\/papa-johns-thinks-the-next-great-pizza-topping-is-software\/\">agent ordering world<\/a>, you\u2019re going to be ordering from your TV, from your car, from your phone,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/partech.com\/about\/\">Savneet Singh<\/a>, CEO of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/partech.com\/\">PAR Technology<\/a>, told PYMNTS in an interview in March, adding that those orders can connect directly to the restaurant rather than passing through third-party marketplaces.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThat means the restaurant has the data, understands the customer\u2019s preferences, and doesn\u2019t pay a toll to another platform,\u201d Singh said.<\/p>\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n<script>\r\n\twindow.pymntsAllowedArticleCount = 1;\r\n\twindow.pymntsPostID = 3727133;\r\n<\/script>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DoorDash\u00a0has not yet announced the launch of a point-of-sale (POS) device.
