Context Protocol (MCP) connectors that link Claude to legal industry software, and 12 plugins for specific legal work and practice areas, the company said in\u00a0a Tuesday\u00a0(May 12)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/claude.com\/blog\/claude-for-the-legal-industry\">blog post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEarlier this year we released our first legal plugin, and in the months since, legal professionals have become the most engaged\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/claude.com\/product\/cowork\">Claude Cowork<\/a> users of any knowledge-work function,\u201d Anthropic said in the post. \u201cWe\u2019re now building on that with a much larger set of tools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new MCP connectors enable Claude to connect with commonly used legal industry systems for contract lifecycle and drafting; deal rooms and transaction documents; document management; expert networks and skills; eDiscovery and review; fiduciary-grade workflows; legal research and case law; legal AI assistants; and public service.<\/p>\n<p>The 12\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/anthropics\/claude-for-legal\">practice-area plugins<\/a>\u00a0are each built around a specific legal role and can be tailored to each team. Each agent template can be installed in Cowork or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/claude.com\/product\/claude-code\">Claude Code<\/a>, and teams can customize the skills.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese updates build on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.anthropic.com\/claude\/opus\">Claude Opus 4.7<\/a>, our most capable publicly available model for legal reasoning and long-document work,\u201d Anthropic said in the post.<\/p><div id=\"pymnt-197977866\" class=\"pymnt-content pymnt-entity-placement\" style=\"margin-top: 50px;\"><p style=\"text-align:center\">Advertisement: Scroll to Continue<\/p><script async type=\"text\/javascript\" id=\"dianomi_context_script\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dianomi.com\/js\/contextfeed.js\"><\/script> \r\n<div class=\"dianomi_context\" data-dianomi-context-id=\"4329\"><\/div><\/div>\n<p>It was reported that Anthropic\u2019s launch of a Cowork\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/artificial-intelligence-2\/2026\/ai-coding-agents-spark-selloff-but-enterprise-software-holds-its-ground\/\">legal plugin<\/a>\u00a0in February wiped\u00a0$285 billion\u00a0from tech stocks within 24 hours due to concerns that this product would threaten existing enterprise software.<\/p>\n<p>PYMNTS reported in October that AI was making inroads into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/artificial-intelligence-2\/2025\/ai-makes-inroads-in-legal-industry-as-funding-tops-2billion\/\">legal industry<\/a>, with AI systems becoming embedded infrastructure in law firms and in-house operations.<\/p>\n<p>As investors took notice, funding to legal technology startups surpassed\u00a0$2.4 billion\u00a0in the first nine months of 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The surge in funding reflected confidence that automation can relieve the legal sector\u2019s document-heavy workloads and unlock new operating\u00a0leverage\u00a0for firms, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>When Anthropic announced in February that it closed a Series G funding round in which it raised\u00a0$30 billion\u00a0and was valued at\u00a0$380 billion, the company attributed investors\u2019 interest in part to its strength in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/news\/artificial-intelligence\/2026\/anthropic-valuation-could-eclipse-openai-50-billion-dollar-funding-round\/\">enterprise AI<\/a>\u00a0and coding.
