The new online course offers practical advice from artificial intelligence (AI) fluency researchers and small business owners on using AI safely and effectively. It includes nine lessons, is available on demand, and, upon completion, offers learners a certificate they can share with their social networks, PayPal said in a Wednesday (May 13) press release.

Amy Bonitatibus, chief corporate affairs officer at PayPal, said in the release that this collaboration with Anthropic will help small- to medium-sized businesses harness the power of AI.

“Together, we are equipping business owners and entrepreneurs with the tools, expertise and trusted infrastructure they need to compete and thrive — and creating new opportunities for them to innovate, grow and better serve their customers,” Bonitatibus said.

Anthropic AI Fluency Researcher Kristen Swanson said in the release that corner shops, solo founders and family businesses will lead the next wave of AI adoption.

“AI Fluency for Small Business gives them practical, proven training that’s already worked for more than a million learners,” Swanson said. “By partnering with PayPal, we can help get important training and resources to millions of small businesses and entrepreneurs.”

PayPal also announced in the release that when Anthropic’s new Claude for Small Business plugin is connected to PayPal’s platform, the Claude AI assistant can handle tasks such as invoicing and refunds. It requires approval before anything is sent or paid, according to the release.

Anthropic introduced Claude for Small Business in a Wednesday announcement, saying this package of connectors and ready-to-run workflows puts Claude inside tools small businesses depend on.

Together with PayPal, the tools that can integrate with Claude for Small Business include Intuit QuickBooksHubSpotCanvaDocusignGoogle Workspace and Microsoft 365, according to the announcement.

Anthropic is also launching a Claude SMB Tour that will take Claude for Small Business on the road and offer live, half-day AI fluency training for 100 local small business leaders at each stop. The Tour kicks off Thursday (May 14) in Chicago and will then travel to nine more cities this spring and additional cities in the fall.
